The Harmonic Damper is a crucial part in protecting the longevity and performance of your engine. Its job is to counteract destructive torsional vibrations caused by harmonic resonance in the crankshaft.
Ross Performance Parts proprietary Ross Tuffbond harmonic dampers feature a fully fixed damping mass, preventing the damping ring from rotating independently under extreme torque. The bonding process guarantees the mass is positioned in a consistent location. After deforming and rebounding during acceleration, deceleration and/or oscillation, the mass will return to its original position ensuring the damper continues to function consistently.
The Ross Tuffbond design suspends the damping mass between the multiplane bonded rubber and multiple high performance duro o-rings. Compressing/sandwiching the mass maximizes surface contact. As the mass excites the increased contact absorbs more damaging vibrations. The increased surface contact also assists with vibration transfer as well as increasing the amount of torque the unit is capable of handling. Bonding on multiple planes, i.e. horizontally and vertically, also improves strength, further increasing the amount of torque the unit can manage and ensuring the mass does not tear loose prematurely.
By increasing the mass that is suspended and isolated from the crank, the greater the energy it takes to excite the damping mass. This increases the amplitude of vibration that can be absorbed and dissipated by the Harmonic Damper, making it more effective.
Unlike some oem and other performance dampers, where the pulleys are mounted to the rubber material, all Ross Performance Parts dampers include independent pulleys that bolt directly to the hub. This reduces the strain on the rubber and prevents accessory belts impeding the function of the damping mass, keeping it truly independent. This also removes the risk of cooling pump failure and allows additional accessory drives, such as a supercharger, to be added with no issue.
All Ross Performance Parts products are designed to provide the maximin protection without the need for modification, this means our parts are a true “bolt on” “out of the box” solution.
Ross Performance Parts Tuffbond Metal Jacket:
The Metal Jacket utilises the proprietary Ross Tuffbond elastomeric bonding process. This unit is designed with all of the original accessory pulley’s being utilised in the standard positions and sizing ratios. In some instances, the power steering pulley is slightly under driven to improve performance at high RPM, whilst not affecting low-speed drivability.
Metal Jacket dampers are designed for high-performance street and occasional track application.
Ross Performance Parts Tuffbond Race Series
The Race Series takes the proprietary Ross Tuffbond technology to another level.
The Race Series has a larger damper mass, lightweight pulley packs with under driven ratios and a separate damper hub. This high-level modular design allows for infinite variations for an array of applications. With the heart of the Ross Race Series having been developed over many years in conjunction with some of the leaders of the high-performance racing industry in their pursuit for excellence.
Ross Performance Parts Tuffbond Gold Series
With the number of genuine 1000HP race vehicles growing all the time, Ross Performance Parts is staying ahead of the game.
The Gold Series is based on the design principles of the Race Series, however, by using a dissimilar material (compared to your crank) for our damper hub, a Ross Performance Parts Gold Series damper will eliminate microscopic migration of material between the surfaces of the crank nose and damper hub. Our technology is pivotal to the prevention of galling and wear of the crankshaft – maintaining a secure press fit over the lifetime of the damper.
